The controversy surrounding the Eletu of Oke -Eletu chieftaincy title in Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA), may have been laid to rest following the withdrawal of recognition of Chief Nofiu Abiodun Adeniyi Kasumu, as the Eletu of Oke -Eletu by the Alajede of Ijede, His Royal Majesty Oba (Hon.) Adefarasin Saheed Hassan, the Ajanaku II.
The withdrawal of recognition was conveyed in a letter from the palace of the Alajede dated 4th September, 2026.
The withdrawal of rights and privileges from the embattled Chief Nofiu was due to the directive of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo -Olu, via an earlier letter dated 6th August, 2026 and signed by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development directing the royal father to maintain the status quo following the appointment of Chief Nofiu as new Eletu in June this year.
The appointment and installation of Chief Nofiu caused uproar within and outside the Ijede Kingdom because the original occupant of the stool, High Chief Adeniyi Ajayi, who has both the local and the state government’s recognition has not vacated the position.
Oba Adefarasin’s letter of withdrawal of authority from Chief Nofiu read:
“Following the directive of Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, through the letter dated 6th August, 2026, by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, to maintain the status quo regarding the appointment of new Eletu of Okeletu, in Ijede Kingdom, I, the Alajede of ljede Oba Adefarasin Saheed Hassan (Ajanaku II) hereby withdraw the chieftaincy of Eletu of Okeletu given to you on the 11th June, 2026.”
”Accordingly you are hereby stripped of all the rights and privileges attached to that office of (Eletu of Okeletu).
”Kindly accept the assurances of my highest regards.”
